大学の組織 数学教室はこの10年の間人員の異動はなく、教授藤本圭男と講師川口良（2021年4月まで助教）の2名で教室を運営してきた。講義科目についても変化はなく、必修科目については大学数学の基本である微積分学と線形代数学およびそれらの演習、選択科目については高度な数学に興味のある学生を対象として群論や複素数関数論の授業を実施してきた。ただし、具体的な内容については医学部の学生が対象という事情を鑑み、応用を意識したより実践的なものへと改良を進めてきた。例えば、解析学の導入で必須とされる連続性や微分可能性に関する厳密な議論は避け、平均値の定理を原始的な関数近似と捉え直して、その一般化としてテイラー展開を紹介したり、その流れで関数近似の別例としてフーリエ解析を学ぶような新たな授業設計に変更した。さらに、フーリエ変換の応用としてJPEGに代表される画像圧縮技術やX線減衰率からの原画像復元（いわゆるCTスキャン）の原理を紹介し、実際にプログラムを組んでそれらの技術が実行される様子を眺めるなど、 At the time of Nara Medical University?s 70th anniversary(in 2015), the university implemented dramatic changes to its English education programme. This resulted in the creation of the Department of Clinical English(DoCE), whose purpose was to provide top-tier clinical English education for all Nara Medical University(NMU)students. In the ten years since then, the DoCE has developed a range of high-quality content and learning integrated(CLIL)English courses for both medical students and nursing students. These core CLIL courses have allowed students to engage with basic scienti?c, medical, and nursing content while also developing their ?uency, communicative compe-tence, and critical thinking skills in English. In addition to these core courses, the DoCE has also facilitated NMU student involvement in numerous special English courses and events during the past decade. These include joining English ?rst 数学が現実社会に活かされているという実感が持てる講義となるよう工夫をしてきた。すぐに使えることや役に立つことが礼讃され、手軽さばかりを追求しがちな現代社会において、基礎から一つ一つ積み上げていく演繹型の学問はどうしても敬遠される傾向にある。その典型である数学の講義において、上述のように微積分の初歩から先端技術にまで話題を広げるのはやや駆け足だが、それでも時代に合わせて教える側も柔軟に変化していく必要があると思う。一方で、あまりこの時流に迎合しすぎて「やり方」だけを教えることに終始すると自分の頭で考える力が失われてしまうため、バランスの取り方が難しいところである。 最後に、数学教室は林田秀宜先生が亡くなられてから長年空室となっていた統計?情報学教室とともに2025年3月をもって廃止されることが決定した。これまで長年にわたり当教室を支えてくださった諸先輩方や、教室運営にご尽力いただいた学内、学外すべての関係者の皆様に厚く御礼申し上げたい。responder training, participating in model United Nations events, and even contributing to English conference presentations and academic papers. Now, as NMU reaches another milestone(its 80th anniversary), yet more change is afoot for English education at NMU. This year has seen the establishment of a new English department(the Department of Basic Medical English)at the new NMU campus. Our new depart-ment and new team members will continue to provide our students with a high level of engagement with English, which will serve them well both now and in their future careers.
